There is a rich seam of British
singer songwriters making a name for themselves with downtempo but upbeat,
sparse electro. Charlotte OC has been on the periphery for a while but I've got
a feeling in my waters that Lauren Laverne is about to pounce and make her a
star (other celebrity DJ endorsements are available). New single 'Strange' is a
wonderfully spooky mix of Bat For Lashes, Kimbra, Goldfrapp, Portishead and the
XX with Charlotte OC's vocals drifting mistily through the small hours of the
night and snaking around your ears before wafting inside you and merging with
your soul perfectly. Like I said, I think her time is now or just around the
corner at the very, very least.
