Skillet have completely passed me
by and that is fairly annoying because not only are they really good they're
also seemingly huge. Who knew? I mean, they sold as many albums as the Black
Keys and Mumford & Sons in the US last year and that puts them in the top
three! How have I never heard of them. I blame the management. Anyway, they're
debuting at Download this year and playing a shit load of gigs around Europe so
they're doing OK for themselves. Oh, the single? Yeah, 'Not Gonna Die' is a
huge rock tune that would have been called nu-metal back in the day but is
actually just really slick stuff full of power chords, big beats and the
glorious twin vocal attack of bassist John Cooper and drummer Jen Ledger. This
is big budget Hollywood music but with passion and bleeding fingers on the
fret-board, style and substance if you will. If you like your rock big and powerful
with its fist firmly in the air then this is for you.
