I recently tweeted about some of
my favourite labels around these days and Xtra Mile were in that list without a
doubt. One of the reasons is that they continuously uncover artists like
Canadian singer-songwriter Billy Pettinger, aka Billy The Kid. If punk-folk is
a thing then that is what Billy plays as she strums like a Dylan, Bragg or
Young but has the passion in her voice of a Springsteen or Ryan Adams.
Forthcoming single 'Back To You' encapsulates all those influences and more (is
there a bit of Against Me! and Belly in there as well?) but also contains some
cracking lyrics with the chorus refrain of "You learn a lot about a girl
from the way she falls apart" being the pick of the bunch. I'm hoping
there's a load more to come from Ms Pettinger and judging from the collaborative
work she's doing with Sir Frank Turner there is no getting rid of her any time
soon.
