Whodathunkit? Sleazy, scuzzy
rock'n'roll coming straight out of Royal Tunbridge Wells? On a Monday? Four
piece Ugly Love are hitting the town with a new single and 'No Model' is full
of intent, lust, sneer and a healthy dose of humour. Mixing the delights of
Mansun, Placebo and early Manic Street Preachers with a dash of the Darkness,
Ugly Love are a lot of fun and I reckon that fun would be multiplied by a few
thousand if you get them on a stage with excited audience. A repeated chorus
refrain of '"I'm no, I'm no model, I look like I've been beaten in the
face with shovel" points towards the band's sense of humour and when
packaged with the tight, slick, riff heavy rock'n'roll you know you're on to a
winner. Is there room for this on the music scene? Of course there is,
everybody loves a band who want to party hard as well as write rocking tunes
don't they? I know I do.
