KOBADELTA - EP REVIEW

Kobadelta - The Hidden Door EP
Kobadelta - The Hidden Door EP

Release Date: 14th February 2014

North East indie rockers Kobadelta are back with a new, 5 track EP and it starts with a real statement of intent. 'Supernatural Cause' has a menacing beat and sinister guitar twang that is like the Doors playing a set on death row during a power cut. When the fuzzy, distortion laden guitars kick in with a vengeance you get the feeling that the locks on all the cells have just failed as well. Fittingly, the next track is called 'Electric Chair' and has a Kasabian-esque energy to it whilst channelling endles 80s British goth bands. The gentle acoustic intro to 'Not Above and Not Behind' is a welcome respite from the murderous tones of the first two tracks but the baritone vocal of front man Dom Noble and the lyrical content about a deceased loved one keep everything thoroughly steeped in death and mortality. And the theme continues with the death march rumble of Chris Malliris' drums at the start of 'The Hidden Door' coupled with the subtle Dick Dale guitars and growing swirl of feedback and distortion. Finishing up with 'Love Stoned Chic', Kobadelta have once again proved their worth as expert purveyors of dark, retro-inspired rock that would make Black Rebel Motor Cycle Club jealous. Darkly delicious stuff surely something to be experienced live - hopefully on the same bill as Dublin's September Girls as they would surely create something of a magnificent noise together.
