Bethany Weimers - The Story I Breathe EP
Release Date: 13th June 2025
Some artists grab your attention immediately and Oxford's Bethany Weimers did just that with her new EP, 'The Story I Breathe'. Opening track 'Heartbreaker Police' has an honest and exposed vocal with subdued melodies before emerging into a legit lo-fi pop banger containing a lyric I can't believe I haven't heard before, "calling out to the heartbreaker police". The EP's title track is up next and those lonely piano notes are at it again while Weimers' vocals have a rich tone that feels like a stunning blend of Regina Spektor, Kate Nash, and Kimbra.
On 'The Wild One' there is a little more urgency with stabbing piano notes and a pulsating synth creating a murder mystery vibe that evolves into something worthy of an captivatingly edgy West End musical about the future. There's a real treat at the end of this EP with final track 'Tabula Rasa' living up to its name with wonderfully free piano melodies roaming over never-ending landscapes and vocals dancing around an abandoned Orchid house without a care in the world. This is a stunning EP with four songs that each demand your attention and reward you generously for the giving of that attention. Blissful.
