There's a confidence and swagger to this latest release from Luvcat that makes resistance beyond futile. 'Lipstick' takes the poise of Sophie Ellis-Bexter, the edge of Juliette Lewis and the swooning melodies of Phoenix, mixes them in a cauldron borrowed from the set of Hocus Pocus and then pours it into a black dress before heading out on the town with James Bond. This is a classy piece of music but there is a glint of mischief and menace behind the mascara and a devilish smile beneath the lipstick.
