The Haar feat. Jessie Summerhayes - My Sweet

Irish quartet the Haar have recruited the poet Jessie Summerhayes for this latest release but despite her being the daughter of the band's violinist, I don't think this is one of those nepo-baby scenarios so rest easy. 'My Sweet Wild Rose' opens with a sparse and strained violin melody before breathy, whispered voices join in to add to the misty and watery mood created on this epic, near ten-minute odyssey. The interchange between Molly Donnery's vocals and Summerhayes' spoken-word poetry is mesmerising as the slow pulse of the bodhran adds a funereal vibe to proceedings. It's not going to inspire any mosh-pits but if you're looking for something with depth that will transport you to another place then this is the one for you.
