THE DEREVOLUTIONS - SINGLE REVIEW

The Derevolutions - I Love This Music

Release Date: Out Now

I'm rapidly becoming infatuated with the Dervolutions which is, largely, down to their music but the fact that they drop singles that are over nine minutes long has a big part to play as well - I like their chutzpah. 'I Love This Music' bubbles and clicks with lo-fi joy but high level grooves as the beats and guitars set about getting a strut on and the vibe builds with each layer of melody. There's a New York cool to this track mixed in with elements of Sleigh Bells, M, Deee-lite and the whole Big Beat scene of the 90s - it's a heady mix but it works and you just want to keep devouring it. That said, this being a near 10 minute song allows the duo to take a few left-turns including a patch exploring their Gorillaz-esque tendencies and a roaring 20s inspired electro-jazz slow-jam towards the end. This is an ode to music itself and it is fabulous.
