BLUDNYMPH - EP REVIEW

Bludnymph - DROOL EP

Release Date: Out Now

Cosplay alt-pop artist Bludnymph has only gone and dropped an entire EP of material (and at 9 tracks she is pushing the limits of the definition of EP) for us to enjoy. The 'DROOL' EP opens up with 'BODY PARTS', a sexy Frankenstein's monster of a song that offers up the physical body while grinding to a dirty synth bass line but there is no heart or soul on offer here. 'Lights Out' has a similarly halloweeny vibe with spooky chords and lurching bass notes before 'Grim Reaper' offers up a Europop take on Gothic themes like Aqua covering Marilyn Manson.

'ORAL HEX (Spell On You)' continues the spooky vibes with lyrics that mention Dracula in relation to oral sex, muggles in relation to hand jobs and generally bringing a million geek fantasies to life. 'DarkMagicSillySexy (Origin Story)' is Bludnymph's calling card played out like a helium fueled lullaby before 'End of the World' brings the tempo down for a more straightforward R&B anthem about casual sex being OK as long as everyone knows what's going down. By contrast, 'Personal Pornstar' trips on a darker beat as Bludnymph demands her boo only has eyes (and other body parts) for her.

Penultimate track 'Watch Me' has a serious alt-pop stomp to it and it feels like the track that would cross over to the mainstream most successfully with the likes of Nicki Minaj, Flo Milli and Kesha checking over their shoulders. The EP closes with '6izarre RAVE' feat. 6arely Human - a dark continuation from the previous track that would work well in Berlin S&M clubs (I imagine) but equally serves as a dark sign off for this collection. It is a singularly unique sound from a brilliantly single-minded artist and is the sexy soundtrack to halloween that we've been waiting for since someone first dressed up as a slutty nun.
