THE ISSUES - EP REVIEW

The Issues - Eat The Pelican EP

Release Date: Out Now

Exeter outfit the Issues have gone and dropped their debut EP, 'Eat The Pelican', and it is a bit of alright. 'Charlie' gets things going without any introduction or lube, just straight in singing "Charlie's a dickhead" while relying on three chords and a whole lot of energy to get through 131 second romp. On 'Trust In Me', things take an unexpected turn towards Santana before veering back on to the garage-punk path via a little bit of reggae. The middle track on the collection is recent single 'Mrs Jane' which still contains all that pent up energy and British influences like the Libertines, the Kinks and Supergrass in their earlier days.

I'm not sure if 'Snowing Down Under' is about winter in Australia or pubic dandruff but either way it's a brilliant Glam-Rock infused riot that speaks about not knowing what the future will hold but knowing it's going to be fun finding out. This debut offering closes out on 'Try Guy', a track as raw as they come as every guitar note is wrung out and each lyric delivered with such desperation that I'd be worried about the singer if he wasn't in a rock'n'roll band. You can tell this is a debut offering because of the raw sound quality and performance but also because the ideas are unfiltered, brilliant and hugely refreshing in a world of love songs and bland lyrics. More please, much more.
