James Sebastian - Snowglobe EP

On the Facebook page for Westcountry rocker James Sebastian it simply says, "we're the new rock'n'roll, you and me". I love that. It's the kind of thing you'd expect to see at the bottom of a David Bowie poster or on the cover of a Led Zep book. This new EP, 'Snowglobe', opens with 'Bedsheets', the kind of song that is both perfect for a California road trip and could be the soundtrack to a night time trip through New Orleans (and when I say trip, I do mean trip). The rolling drums that introduce 'Life's Tasting Good' give you an instant feeling of positivity which the horn fuelled melodies back up in a big way allowing the vocals to soar and roar like something out of the Haight-Ashbury heyday.
'Soundtrack' is a comparatively poppy number but still with that retro feel as the drums bounce and the bass bubbles along cheerfully on a sunny day during the summer of love. On the brilliantly titled 'Alexandra's Got Her Lovin' On', James Sebastian embraces his inner hippy and rolls around on the grass with his beau while the sun shines and the world keeps on spinning. The EP closes out with title track, 'Snowglobe', which is a sombre, end of the evening acoustic melody with a more subdued vocal and fireside vibes that puts you right in front of Sebastian's fire. This EP might be steeped in influences from the past but that doesn't make it sound any less raw, fresh and vital in its energy.
