PUBLIC SERVICE BROADCASTING - SINGLE REVIEW

Public Service Broadcasting - This New Noise
(Test Card Recordings)

Release Date: Out Now

God this is gorgeous. I mean, properly gorgeous and lush and luxurious. For those that have yet to discover Public Service Broadcasting, this is a great stepping off point as 'This New Noise', the new single and title track of the forthcoming album, was recorded at the Royal Albert Hall as part of the BBC Proms. After a cinematic intro that lasts a few seconds, this song drops down to a rhythmic hum to allow the band's trademark spoken word sample to take centre stage. Then the band build with intricate guitars, brooding strings, pulsating brass and woodwind and the clickety-clack of urgent percussion that sounds like a hundred Victorian accountants at the end of the tax year. The song, of course, builds to a cinematic climax that makes you want to jump up and take on the world but for now I'll settle for converting a few more hearts and minds to the church of Public Service Broadcasting.
