Every now and again I am privileged to come across something so brilliant, fresh and unique that I am momentarily stopped in my tracks before being compelled to share such this new found magic with you all. Nanauwe gave me one of these moments of joy with her new single 'Wuneeskuh' which whispers, shudders and murmurs in to life. Inspiration from her native Wôpanâak tribe, soulful vocals full of emotion and a timbre full of urgency all swirl together like smoke plumes rising and intertwining in the early evening light. This feels like an entirely new genre and there is so much to unpack but I suppose this is just alt-folk with a folk music that sounds different to the one I grew up knowing. Either way, it is utterly captivating and I love it.
