DELILAH HOLLIDAY - EP REVIEW

Delilah Holliday - Invaluable Vol. 1 EP (One
Little Independent Records)

Release Date: Out Now

This new six track collection from North London's Delilah Holliday is a great introduction to an intriguing and exciting artist. The 'Invaluable Vol. 1' EP gets started with 'Steel Charmed', a song that creeps into life with the energy of a lo-fi horror soundtrack before emerging like a black swan in to something even darker but more alluring. 'Burn Money' follows with an energy pitched somewhere between Massive Attack, Please Prettylea and Moloko as the dark beats and scattered melodies make for an industrial pop landscape. On 'Silent Streets' there's a more bubbling and cheeky vibe while 'Everything I Ever Wanted' slows things down for a late night/early morning confessional of a song that mutters in your ear while you struggle with consciousness and Holliday's dusky vocals twist around you like plumes of smoke.

'Looking Over My Shoulder' is just over a minute of spoken word describing that feeling of having an epiphany on the last bus home when you realise how you want to live your life just before your stop. The EP comes to a conclusion on 'Heavens Waiting Room' which is both disorientating and comforting at the same time, a neat trick to pull off. Delilah Holliday is the kind of artist who, with the right backing, could become the darling the new music world so what do you say? Let's give her that backing and make a difference for a particularly gifted and special artist.
