THE FINAL CLAUSE OF TACITUS - EP REVIEW

The Final Clause Of Tacitus - The Oxygen Is
Killing You EP

Release Date: 23rd June 2023

If you're looking for a new release that sounds dramatic, cool and conspiratorial all at the same time then I urge you to check out the new EP 'The Oxygen Is Killing You' by Reading quartet The Final Clause Of Tacitus. The first of the five songs is the title track and the band ease us in with a minute of ominous guitar fuzz before they crunch in to something akin to Rage Against The Machine if they wrote a song about COVID-19. 'I Know You, You Said You Are, But What Am I?' brings the maturity levels down on the title front but the song itself is a moody rap-rock combination that would push Skindred or the Prophets of Rage hard in a rap battle.

On 'Everybody Makes Mistakes, I Create Disasters', TFCOT emerge from some incidental Halloween music in to 90s inspired flow before the Muse-meets-Morello guitars go all Psycho on our collective asses. 'The Sniper' has a snapping bass line to die for and guitars that swirl around your head like a coil of razor wire before the chorus explodes and this cymbal bell percussive moments ping through your brain like bullets. The EP closes on 'One To Blame' with a bass line that will get any mosh bouncing and some DJ scratching that puts me in mind of early Incubus material which is about as high praise as I can offer a band. It's so great to discover a new band and fall in love with every track straight away so now I'm just hoping they can drag their asses down to the South West so I can catch them live.
