The intro to this latest release from excellent collective James & the Cold Gun is a thundering drum beat that gets you right in the rib cage and will, I expect, be an outstanding experience live. From that point onward, 'Bittersweet' settles in to a storming rock riff with late 80s undertones and a seriously moody underbelly. The vocals snarl and sneer like something between Robert Smith and Kurt Cobain at his most rock'n'roll and that guitar vs drums battle rumbles on in the background without letting up for a second. Intense, infectious and urgent - brilliant all round.
