BISHOP BRIGGS - EP REVIEW

Bishop Briggs - When Everything Went Dark EP (Sony)

Release Date: Out Now

2023 has been quite the year for Bishop Briggs already but she's not done yet as her new EP, 'When Everything Went Dark', drops. The first of the six tracks is 'Reborn', striding in confidently with determination in the beats, soul in the vocals and pop in the melodies making this the perfect opening number. The lilting, quirky pop of 'Baggage' is up next sounding like the kind of song that Katy Perry would kill for before 'Cherry on Top' brings a Jessie J vibe with the stomping beats and bombastic melodies.

"God forbid I'm bad" Briggs sings at the start of 'Bad' with all the soul and depth of a gospel choir leader pouring her heart out while 'High Water' blends elements of Pink, Ed Sheeran and Billie Eilish to create an emotive but hooky song. The closing track, 'Superhuman', is one of those songs that builds from a simple melody and child-like lyric in to a truly uplifting and inspiring song. Bishop Briggs has it all in her arsenal and she knows how to use those weapons with impressive precision so you'd better make sure she's on your side or things could get ugly.
