THE BLINDERS - EP REVIEW

The Blinders - Electric Kool-Aid (Part 1) EP

Release Date: 14th January 2022

Dark and broody outfit the Blinders are back with their new EP 'Electric Kool-Aid (Part 1)' and is a trip. Opening with title track 'Electric Kool-Aid', the band set about a storming Black Rebel Motorcycle Club vibe with middle-eastern melodic overtones which totally blow you away and this is just the one minute intro. 'Barefoot Across Your Water' has an incredibly mature sound that feels as though it came drifting out of a log cabin in the Appalachian Mountains as the piano chimes and singing guitar notes make this one soar.

On 'The City We Call Love' the BRMC vibes are back with an Arctic Monkeys swagger and a bassline to die for as the band layer cool upon cool upon cool until you just can't take it anymore. There's an urgent darkness to 'The Writer' that melds influences from the likes of the Cooper Temple Clause, Fontaines D.C. and Idles to create something truly Orwellian in tone. The EP comes to a climax on 'Hate To See You Tortured' which has the feel of a rambunctious set closer with thumping drums and a real sense that the curtain is about to come down imminently. It might only be mid-January but it's going to take something pretty special to top this EP in 2022 so I can only hope that 'Part 2' is even better.
