There's a lot going on with this release from the eye catching title for the duo, Let's Eat Grandma, to the unlikely but captivating video featuring the two band members playing tennis in heavy eye liner. 'Happy New Year' kicks off with some uplifting and bouncy synths and a club beat that beckons you on to the dancefloor but before you know it, a dirty bass line joins in and the vocals get all alt-pop cool. It's all pretty positive but if you listen carefully there's a tinge of sadness and regret in the lyrics with themes of reconciliation and forgiveness in a platonic relationship. Platonic-pop, then, and all the better for it.
