The hardest thing about writing this blog is chosing what not to write about - there simply aren't enough hours in my day to review every single release I get sent. Some tunes, however, demand exploration and almost anything involving the duo Larkin Poe is worth such attention. The Nashville pair have teamed up with the Nu Deco Ensemble for new single 'Every Bird That Flies' and it is an absolute modern blues masterpiece. The brooding bass, guitar and cello opening mixes perfectly with that country-blues vocal twang that is a trademark of the music these two talented women create. There is menace, swampiness and mischief in the music but hope in the lyrics which makes for a delicious balance that is almost impossible to resist and, frankly, why would you want to? Watch the video, let this wash over you and enjoy the mystery, the beauty and the subtle power of this track. Like I said, it's a masterpiece.
