Larkin Poe – Fly Away (Tricki-Woo Records)

Superb US duo Larkin Poe have put
together what promises to be an excellent an album of acoustic cover versions
that is due out in November but to keep us from going crazy with anticipation they
have released their version of the Lenny Kravitz anthem ‘Fly Away’. The first
thing you notice is the swampy guitar tones that come floating out of the bayou
giving the verse a more a laid back and slightly more sinister tone than the
original. However, the chorus finds the duo’s trademark vocal harmonies take centre
stage for a performance that equals Mr Kravitz’s for power and that special something
that makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
