The excellent Madame So is back
with yet another single in the shape of ‘Who Are We to Judge?’ which puts her
shoulder to shoulder with some of the best emerging talents in the UK. The
track opens with an acoustic riff dripping in 90s tones that makes this sound
like a lost Nirvana demo before Madame So’s vocal drifts in from the shadows
and adds a hint of soulful mysticism to proceedings. This is some sort of
hybrid Grunge’n’soul with a hint of shoegaze thrown in for good measure that
leaves you feeling like Lush have been resurrected but toned down the pop
element of their performance a bit. Madame So is unlike anything else coming
out of the UK right now and all the better for it.
