TAYLOR SWIFT – SINGLE REVIEW

Taylor Swift – Cardigan

Release Date: Out Now

So, Taylor Swift just went and dropped a whole new album on the world without warning and I thought I’d check out the first single from it, namely ‘Cardigan’. This is stripped back and sparse stuff with a gentle piano riff, skittish percussion and a sense of nostalgia hanging heavily in the air while Swift’s easily identifiable vocal floating effortlessly above it all. There are elements of Tori Amos here (not just because of the piano) as well as Ani Di Franco and Imogen Heap which shows the next stage of Swift’s evolution and that’s what all the important artists do, they evolve. I’m not sure about the press shot that flies a little close to Titanic: The Musical but otherwise I am pleasantly impressed by this one.
