Well, this is a bit different. Norway’s
Fanny Andersen has distilled the essence of the confession on ‘Wake Up’ as she sings
about struggles with lethargy and mental health but this is no introverted or
self-pitying ballad. No, Andersen takes the approach of writing a banging alt-pop
song with the kind of unique energy that Sia and Christine & the Queens normally
employ and then accompanying it with steely eyed vocals. The buzz and crackle
of this tune is absolutely outstanding and I’d challenge anyone not to prick
their ears up when the chorus explodes in your ears.
