This is a delightfully calm and
hugely welcome slice of intimate acoustic bliss that a lot of us probably need
right now. ‘Superpowers’ is the new release from US singer-songwriter Charli Adams
and it speaks directly to the ‘strange times’ we find ourselves in. The guitar
is strummed with muted frustration and a sense of helplessness while Adams’
voice is both intimate and on the verge of cracking with emotion. When she
sings “Is it ever gonna come back around?” you can hear your own heart yearning
for the little moments of normality like ordering a burger in a crowded bar or going
for a swim. Rarely does a lone acoustic guitar and vocals sound so full whilst
also sounding so cavernously empty. Beautiful.
