THE DARKNESS – SINGLE REVIEW

The Darkness – Rock and Roll Deserves to Die
The Darkness
(Cooking Vinyl Records)

Release Date: Out Now

You don’t expect a track by the Darkness to start with a Mandolin but new track ‘Rock and Roll Deserves to Die’ does exactly that as it opens like a Tenacious D piece of theatrical prog….with a bit of flute thrown in for good measure. Sure enough, however, the Spinal Tap grandioseness soon kicks after the first chorus as Justin Hawkins’ reliable impressive vocals soar to trouser tighteningly improbable heights. As the guitars get turned up to eleven and a half, the typically shlocky video sees the band flip their wigs and the audience lose their clothes as the Marshall stacks blast forth with biblical power. Rock’n’Roll may deserve to die but it will never be allowed to as long as the Darkness are still with us.
