CASSELS – SINGLE REVIEW

Cassels – The Queue at the Chemists (Big Scary
Cassels - The Queue at the Chemists
Monsters)

Release Date: Out Now

My favourite agitated brothers Cassels are back and this time they’re taking on the criminal inactivity around the Climate Change emergency. ‘The Queue at the Chemists’ is typically sparse when it comes to their brand of punk duelling and the scratchy VHS video matches that vibe perfectly. However, beyond the excellently brutal musicianship, the key to the Cassels brand is the biting and honest lyrics delivered with deadpan glory. “How can I be expected to care about an abstract and nebulous problem like a dying planet when I’m forced to queue for over 20 minutes to replenish my cod liver oil stocks at the chemists?” – as opening lines go, this is unlikely to get any plagiarism complaints from Gary Barlow but it cuts to the chase. Just replace ‘codliver oil stocks’ with ‘Brexit’ and you’ve pretty much got the national psyche of the tabloid reading masses more concerned with the price of a crate of Carling than the impact of those empty cans discarded on the beach they stubbed their fags out on.
