Canadian singer Nuela Charles
might well have come up with one of my favourite tracks of the year so far. ‘Long
Way Down’ has the blues at its heart, Charles’ voice is full of dusky soul and
the music has the class of bigger, more established song. We’re talking about
the stadium filling power of Adele, the sultry tones of Nina Simone and the
infectious melodies of Paloma Faith all wrapped up in a song that sounds like the
Black Keys where involved in the production. The only artist currently coming
close to this are emerging British band Bang Bang Romeo and there are three of
them. Bravo, Neula. Much more of this please. Great video too, by the way.
