GAUCHE – SINGLE REVIEW

Gauche – Running (Merge Records)
Gauche - Running

Release Date: Out Now

DC collective Gauche describe themselves as an ‘anti-capitalist, anti-racist, feminist jam band’ and if you can’t get on board with that then you’re probably on the wrong blog. The band’s new single, ‘Running’, is not an ode to jogging but is, in reality, an abrasive and melodic slice of angular art-punk-pop. I’m reminded of early B52s material and very early Long Blondes material as the guitar notes are picked out in raw form, the drums stab and thrust and the vocals sound like a group of people at the end of their tether at the end of the night at the end of the world. “What is the point of my life now I’m here in this world?” they ask and I think we can all identify with that thought at least once….a week.
