This is the final single of Pip Hall’s recent run and the Preston based talent is still riding high on the crest of a wave. ‘The Perfect Life’ has a beautifully laid-back vibe that is somewhere between Laura Marling or PJ Harvey and Sebadoh or the Lemonheads which suits this dead patch between Halloween/Bonfire Night/Thanks Giving and the point at which it’s socially acceptable to start getting excited about Christmas. Vocally, Hall has definitely settled in to a breathy and sophisticated style that will please fans of Bat For Lashes while the music is lo-fi but perfectly poised which all adds up to a slice of understated beauty just perfect for wearing to the Christmas party. Oh wait, this is a song not a dress. Ah screw it, I’m sticking with it. Effortlessly elegant and comfy as hell.
