BANG BANG ROMEO – EP REVIEW

Bang Bang Romeo – Shame on You (Five Seven Music)
Bang Bang Romeo - Shame On You EP

Release Date: Out Now

Doncaster trio Bang Bang Romeo are making a bit of a splash at the moment, their star is on the rise, so it’s particularly good timing that they have this EP ready to release on you. Opening up with title track ‘Shame on You’, the three piece get things swinging with a track that takes the swagger of the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, the power of Beth Ditto and the song writing of Adele performing with Shirley Bassey’s backing band to create an unholy noise. We’re up and running. ‘Cemetery’ is up next and it has more of a pop vibe but vocalist Anastasia Walker shows that she has huge ability and a huge voice as well as showing that there is a world outside of the X-Factor…. praise the lord.
If you’re looking for a power ballad with the emphasis on power, then ‘Adore Me’ might just be the song for you with carefully placed piano notes and a bassline to die for as it builds and falls away with superb precision. The bass is front and centre again on ‘Bag of Bones’ as the soul’n’roll is given a kick in the ass by a thumping drum sound and you can’t help but feel that Aretha would nod sage approval of a tune like this – for it’s soul, power and attitude. The EP closes out with the intensely emotional and powerful rock tune ‘Chemical’ and you can’t deny that by the time this EP is over Bang Bang Romeo are a band with huge talent, even bigger songs and the road rising up to meet them.
