VELVET & STONE – SINGLE REVIEW

Velvet & Stone – High Tide
Velvet & Stone - High Tide

Release Date: 24th July 2018

Devon combo Velvet & Stone aren’t resting on the laurels of creating heartstring tugging modern folk, oh no, they’re only giving 100% of the proceeds of this single to Cancer Research UK. The thing is, once you make that connection and listen to the emotive lyrics of ‘High Tide’ laid out on top of the atmospheric, organic music it’s nigh on impossible to hold back the emotions. The undulating rippled guitar notes have a Brother & Bones feel to them but the vocals are more ethereal as Lara Snowdon breathily sings “There’s trouble in the blood of you and me, the storm reveals the bones on the beach. But how cruel a high tide to take your breath away, I’ll miss you in the cold light of day” and a lump appears in the throat of everyone listening. Whether you’ve lost someone to cancer of just like excellent folk music with a driving heart, you need this song in your life so that someone else can keep cancer out of theirs.
