Canadian songstress Nuela Charles
is back with a new single and it’s a stormer. ‘Troublemaker’ combines the
modern sass’n’soul of Meghan Trainor, the genuine performance of Dusty Springfield,
the pop nous of Little Mix and the production qualities of Mark Ronson making
this quite the heady brew. There are hand claps, call answer vocals, a horn
section and finger clicks so all the boxes are ticked but this isn’t soul by
numbers, there is a real Motown soul vibe going on here and that aforementioned
sass comes through strong in every syllable of the vocals. Charles has all the ingredients
in spades so keep an eye on this one, especially if you like music you can
shake your hips to.
