new track from Hannah Featherstone is instantly ear-catching and immediately
puts you in a place that is usually occupied by the likes of Sia, Charlotte
Gainsbourg, Laura Mvula, Bat For Lashes, early Ellie Goulding and Kimbra among
others. ‘What’s In a Name’ blends an electro-pop groove based around a simple
piano riff with Carly Simon-esque vocals and the kind of phrasing you’d expect
from a Jazz track or a progressive new stage musical – Hamilton, perhaps.
Featherstone’s voice is gorgeous enough as it is but the Franco-British talent
has not rested on her laurels and pushes boundaries with melody and arrangement
to create something that spans genres which is no easy feat. Magnifique, non?
