GO MARCH – SINGLE REVIEW

Go March – Chop Chop (Yokozuna Records/N.E.W.S)

Go March - Chop Chop

Release Date: Out Now

I’m pretty sure there’s some strong science at play behind this track from Belgian collective Go March but I’m not gonna delve too deeply in to that. All I know is that I’ve listened to this track around 25 times now and each time I listen to it I have the most productive nine minutes of my day – it’s like speed without the comedown. ‘Chop Chop’ is entirely instrumental and fuses the intensity of compatriots Goose, the style of Hot Chip and the energy of Django Django to create one of the most fiercely infectious tracks of the year. Using layers and layers of guitar notes – from harmonics to chords – laid over a dirty synthesized bass line and driving, rock’n’roll drums with the precision of a club smasher, Go March have found the formula to create audible energy. This is twitchy, nervous, distracted and on edge but, for me anyway, that seems to focus my mind purely on the task at hand so it’s going to have to go on some kind of playlist. I can’t imagine running (largely because I don’t go running) to this but I reckon you’d smash your PB if you had this strapped in to your lug-holes on a loop. Crazy good.
