WAR WAVES – SINGLE REVIEW

War Waves – Sleep (Backwater Records)
War Waves - Sleep

Release Date: 29th June 2018

I don’t get enough music from the East of the UK, it’s an underrepresented part of the country for music I’d say. Nevertheless, the excellently named War Waves hail from Ipswich and their new single ‘Sleep’ more than makes up in quality what the region lacks in quantity. There is a definite flavour of Frank Turner in this indie lament of fading youth but that’s a good thing in my book. The fuzzy but melodic guitars and understated drums perfectly support the pleading vocals all delivered with a sense of inevitability and despair wrapped in a thin cloth of the last remnants of optimism. If you like your guitar music with fragility and honesty as well as a decent melody then you need to get on board with War Waves. Like, now.
