So here we have a song that could easily become a summer party anthem and it comes not from the sunny, glamorous climes of LA but Motherwell, aka Steelopolis. The LaFontaines have done their best to extract every drop of rare Scottish sunshine and infuse in to new single ‘Up’ which blends rap, indie, dance, soul and rock to make something incredibly sweet and addictive. The stuttering melody and rapped lyrics put this somewhere between the Happy Mondays, Primal Scream and Len as the band get their message of good times across with swagger and style. There is a hint of Gorillaz in here too which stops this veering off down a Limp Bizkit cul-de-sac and if you aren’t swaying to the melody by the end of this then you need some more rum in your coke.
