MANIC STREET PREACHERS – SINGLE REVIEW

Manic Street Preachers – Distant Colours (Columbia Records)

Manic Street Preachers - Distant Colours
Release Date: Out Now

You can’t really go wrong with the Manics, can you? I know some people hate them, but you know what you’re going to get don’t you? I mean, if you don’t like spice, don’t order the curry. New single ‘Distant Colours’ has a visually satisfying video that opens with some spoken word Welsh commentary before the music kicks in. Reassuringly, the track itself is as broad, lush and sweeping as the landscapes featured in the video, undulating from gently picked melodies tinged with sadness right up to a soaring chorus that is full of honest emotion and raw spirit. The Manics are easing in to that period of their career where they can do whatever they want, creatively speaking, but you get the feeling they’re playing to their strengths right now and when your strengths are this strong then who are we to argue?
