SHITKID – SINGLE REVIEW

ShitKid – Alright (PNKSLM Recordings)
ShitKids - Alright

Release Date: Out Now

I’m on the fence with this one. On one side of the fence is the clear and real argument that Asa Soderqvist (aka ShitKid) is the perfect antidote to the air-brushed bubblegum alt-pop coming out of Sweden by the truckload at the moment. On the other side of the fence is the argument that just because this is different, doesn’t make it any good. The riff and beat combination that kicks off new single ‘Alright’ is pure Iggy in its infectious simplicity and the vocals are like a really young Bjork or Whale in their prime, dripping in reverb and raw attitude. And then there’s the feeling that this is what the Presidents of the United States of America would have sounded like if they’d been to art school, which is a Marmite proposition if ever there was one. I think I’m leaning towards this being a very good thing indeed but I’m thirsty for more to check I’m not being drawn in to some Chris Morris-esque prank.
