ABOVE DAT – SINGLE REVIEW

Above Dat – Dance On [feat. Jesse Boykins III] (Soul Jamz Records)
Above Dat - Dance On

Release Date: 22nd July 2016

Above Dat are a couple of producers from Western Ireland (Cork to be precise), known to their mothers as Ian Ring and Stevie G (well, Stevie is probably known by a longer surname unless he comes from that famous musical dynasty that features Warren, Kenny and Gina). ‘Dance On’ is the pair’s second single and from the get-go it’s a sultry, pulsating piece of electro-soul perfectly embellished by the dusky tones of Jesse Boykins III. When the beat drops and that Flat Eric bass throb rounds the sound out then you know you’re in the presence of a serious dance tune. Throw in some Daft Punk-esque laser stabs and the odd missed beat for good measure and I’m sold. This is one of those tunes that turns a part from a gathering in to an event. Gorgeous vocals, classy melodies and a real sense of purpose behind this which is rare in so many dance tunes these days. Auntie Gina would be proud.
