THE LAKE POETS - SINGLE REVIEW

The Lake Poets - Honest Hearts
The Lake Poets - Honest Hearts

Release Date: 16th June 2014

The Lake Poets is just one man, one talented man from Sunderland by the name of Martin Longstaff who is hell bent of making me cry....in a nice way. The gentle acoustic pickings of 'Honest Hearts' combined with Longstaff's beautifully Paul Smith-esque vocal style would be fine enough and perfectly enjoyable. But I'm a sucker for a slide guitar sound and low drone the acts as the bed for this melody does something to the soul and when the drums come clattering in like an excitable Labrador towards the end....well, I'm done for. This is windswept, epic music with its roots in folk but it's head in the clouds and the heart somewhere in the middle, swelling with love. Gorgeous stuff.
