PATRICK CIRCUS - EP REVIEW

Patrick Circus - The Sky Is A Portrait EP

Release Date: Out Now

Every now and again, I get a random prod on social media from an artist that wants to send me their stuff and I love this direct connection (no shade on music PRs, they do an amazing and vital job). One such instance brought me to Patrick Circus and the new EP, 'The Sky Is A Portrait'. The title track gets us underway with some spoken word feed through a mangle set to the sound of 70s cop show horns going through a midlife crisis on some pot they found in their sons bedroom.

'Dune IV' takes the jazzy influences on a step but this time with some meandering vocals and the occasional stab of System Of A Down guitars and bursts of furious percussion. There is something of the very early Incubus material about Patrick Circus and 'Asleep On The Rocks' takes that spaced out energy builds from fever dream to full on freak out beautifully. On 'Memory Shaken' we get a more swooning and crooning vibe a la Tankus while closing track 'Blink' goes all Jeff Buckley on us with those dreamy vocals and jangling guitar notes. Patrick Circus embody freedom, creativity and curiosity which, in my book, makes them pretty neat.
