Straight outta SoCal, Kiki Holli & the Remedy mean business on their new five track EP, 'Something About You' but what that business is remains unclear. The first track up is the title track and we get something that matches the noir trip-hop of Portishead with the kind of guitars that Dwayne Eddy would slot effortlessly into a Tarantino soundtrack. Next up is 'The Garden' which is a little lighter and floatier with a Beach Boys energy in the drums and layered vocal harmonies - very SoCal.
A cover of the oft overlooked INXS's 'Don't Change' is a dreamy, slightly ethereal rendering of the tender song while 'So Far Away' has an 80s post-punk vibe to it that is all black Ray-Bans and open top cars. The EP comes to a close on 'Brand New Day' which has a crunching beat and best shows off Kiki Holli's soulful vocal with an alt-pop edge that makes this such an intriguing sound. It's hard to pigeonhole Kiki Holli & the Remedy but that's got to be a good thing, hasn't it? Just keep doing what you're doing.
