Here comes Gozer Goodspeed with more of his trademark spacey blues, right? Wrong. New single 'Drink To The Absent Gods' opens with a distorted wail of guitar (more specifically a one string Diddley Bow) and then a raw, almost punkish drum beat that slams like Rocky punching large amounts of meat. Goodspeed's vocal switches from sneering with disdain to whispering with menace and I'm reminded of Mudhoney by the abrasive blues energy in this one. This sounds like a change of direction but that's ignoring the fact that this is the evolution of an artist who still has plenty of tricks up his sleeve.
