Singer-songwriter Emily Gray describes her new single 'Paper Wings' as her answer to Radiohead's outsider anthem 'Creep' but I feel like that doesn't tell us the whole story. For starters, the acoustic strum is more optimist albeit with some 'Creep'-esque chord changes and I feel like Gray is more empowered in calling herself a weirdo. This is the kind of song that will resonate deeply with people all over the world - whether you're the kid in a bedroom feeling alone in the world or listening to this on headphones as you commute to a job where you can feel your soul being chipped away every day. So, for me, this has more in common with Frank Turner's uplifting folk-rock anthems and when those vocal harmonies kick in you may well dissolve into a puddle of tears but you'll come back stronger.
