CORNELIUS - EP REVIEW

Cornelius - Mind Train EP

Release Date: Out Now

Japanese maestro Cornelius has released the three track Mind Train EP but don't be under any misconception that this is some quick or punky affair. Up first is 'Bad Advice', a Chic-meets-Moroder electro-disco affair with subdued vocals with a sprinkling of sounds that put you in mind of early Daft Punk or Air in their effortless cool. The Joseph Shabason remix of 'Sparks' is a calming and slightly hypnotic affair with clicked beats, soft vocals and woozy but luxurious melodic landscapes.

The title track, 'Mind Train', is just as bonkersly brilliant as when I first heard it with the bending guitar notes and unstoppable forward motion giving you a sense of progress whether you like it or not. Cornelius is clearly a mad genius but, when you're on a constant hunt for the best new music around, it's great to bump into someone with this level of creative freedom. Better than great, it's bloody liberating.
