MILKSHED. - EP REVIEW

milkshed. - Mud EP

Release Date: Out Now

I've been championing rock trio milkshed. since I heard their debut single and as this debut EP, 'Mud', comes out in to the world it seems other people are sitting up and paying attention too. The four track collection starts with 'Fairweather Friend' and the band gets down to punchy business straight away with choppy chords, face punch beats and the kind of vocals that are both melodic and gritty. The song that started it all, 'Apex Predator', still sounds brilliantly raw and edgy with elements of Cable, Dinosaur Pile-Up and Beach Riot making this a song that needs implanting in everyone's brains for when you need a confidence boost.

'Burning Bridges' does the loud-quiet thing brilliantly as the subdued, Nirvana-esque guitars soon explode with the drums into the kind of chorus that Sum 41 or Weezer would be chuffed with. The EP finishes up with the title track, 'Mud', and the thundering drums suggest a gas guzzling hog coming over the horizon as the apocalypse unfolds in the background as the scything guitars add a sense of urgency to proceedings. This is a band at the very start of it's journey but every step so far is an emphatic one and I can't wait to hear what comes next.
