Every time I hit play on a new artist or song, I'm desperately hoping for something to blow my socks off and, thankfully, that happens from time to time - including this time with the fabulous new single from Paris Paloma. 'My Mind (Now)' opens with a mesmeric layering of vocals that are part folk, part tribal and part alt-pop before Paloma's strongest voice takes over to lead the narrative forwards like a horse through the forest in search of water. And just as you let yourself succumb to the wave after wave of vocals like sleeping into a lake, the chorus explodes with energy, a burst of sound, drums clattering and melodies prickling through the speakers beautifully. This is primal, elemental and frankly life affirming stuff and if we're talking about this as a single of the year come December that it will have been an exceedingly good year.
