Esme Storm - Florentine EP
Release Date: Out Now
South Devon artist Esme Storm has just dropped her debut EP and, quite honestly, I don't think I've heard anything this effortlessly beautiful in a very long time. The 'Florentine' EP begins with the wafting and sultry 'Take Time' which takes delicate, folky vocals and a bossa nova beat to create a sunny afternoon melody to help you drift away. On 'Ways We Fall In Love', the singer-songwriter takes a lazy meander through a park to find a tree to lie under and watch the world float past without a worry or any sense of urgency and it is both infectious and a tonic.
The vinyl crackle of 'Butterflies' transports you back to a Parisian apartment in the 1950s where Storm's voice wraps you up in honey and velvet to protect you from anything this big bad world has to throw at you. The delicate guitar playing on 'Shadows, Pouring' combined with that spun-gold of a voice should be prescribed on the NHS or just dropped in to war zones on a loop - I swear it has healing properties. The closing track, 'Bird Chirps And Chatter', is the very essence and sound of an English Country garden with homemade lemonade and a Victoria Sponge waiting temptingly on the bistro table for Esme to finish her melodious playing. This EP is the sound of the summer we all wanted but didn't get in 2023 but at least we can dream.
